“Billionaire Elon Musk’s Tesla will set up an electric car manufacturing unit in the southern Indian state of Karnataka,” reported Reuters, citing a government document.
Details:
- State chief minister BS Yediyurappa also reportedly tweeted that Tesla would be establishing an R&D unit in Bengaluru. The tweet was deleted soon after.
- The news was revealed in a statement, which is part of a document detailing India’s budget.
Context:
- The electric vehicle maker has recently registered a unit in India.
- Tesla is also planning on entering Singapore, having already received a pre-delivery inspection approval from the country’s Land Transport Authority.
- It will also come up with a smaller and cheaper Tesla – priced at US$25,000 – which will be designed at a research center at Tesla’s Gigafactory in Shanghai.
