Report: Tencent receives another complaint of monopolistic practice
“Chinese tech giant Tencent has become the target of a fresh anti-monopoly complaint to regulators, this time from a supplier of smart vehicle technology and a General Motors China venture,” reported Reuters.
Details:
- Since August 2020, Tencent has been asking car companies to stop using internet of vehicles products made by Pateo, the Shanghai-based supplier said in a statement.
- Pateo submitted the complaint jointly with SAIC General Motors Corp.
Context:
- This accusation comes after ByteDance’s Chinese short-video app Douyin sued Tencent for monopolistic behavior and asked for 90 million yuan (US$13.94 million) in compensation.
- Regulators in China have just finalized new anti-monopoly rules aimed at reducing anti-competitive behavior of the country’s tech giants.
