The startup, which was established in 2019 and expanded to Vietnam in January 2020, merges online and offline learning by offering a mobile app and supplements it with offline learning centers. It provides courses on subjects such as mathematics, physics, chemistry, and English.

The company’s platform uses artificial intelligence and machine learning to design tailored learning programs for students. Meanwhile, it also provides a toolkit for Vietnamese teachers to help them improve their expertise in education and help them transition from mass education to personalized teaching.

Manabie says it has over 350,000 downloads after one year of launching in Vietnam and has five learning centers in Ho Chi Minh City. Moving forward, it plans to scale its online-merge-offline model, focusing on improving the user experience in the learner community.

The edtech startup was founded by Takuya Homma and Christy Wong. Homma has 10 years of experience in education and an understanding of the Southeast Asian market, while Wong previously worked as an executive vice president at Lazada.

After a year of operations in Vietnam, Manabie said it has raised US$4.8 million in total funding to date.
