Here’s an interesting rumor that just popped up on Chinese gaming news site QQ Games: according to an anonymous internal source at PopCap, the company is working on three separate pieces of animation based on Plants vs. Zombies 2. It’s not clear how long any of the three pieces will be, or what language they will be in, but the article suggests that the films will premiere on Tencent’s video platform, which would certainly suggest they’ll be premiering in Chinese.
In terms of the content, beyond the PvZ theme there isn’t much in the way of detail. Apparently the animations will visit locations that popped up in the game including Egypt and the West, but the videos will apparently also show a brand new “kung-fu world”, whatever that means. The quality of the animation will supposedly be even better than the animation in PvZ 2‘s cinematic trailer, which you can check out below for comparison purposes:
So, is this rumor worth believing? With anonymously-source rumors in the Chinese gamng media, it’s always tough to say, but it’s worth pointing out that QQ Games is owned by Tencent, which has been Popcap’s China partner for Plants vs. Zombies stuff, so in this case it’s likely a reliable source.
In any event, we’re always up for more PvZ stuff, so some new movies or short films or whatever they are should be interesting. Bring ’em on, Popcap/Tencent!
