Report: ByteDance buys another gaming studio to mount challenge on Tencent
“China’s ByteDance said on Wednesday that its gaming unit Nuverse has acquired C4games,” Reuters reported.
Details:
- This acquisition comes as ByteDance looks to expand its video gaming business. However, the firm did not specify the value for the deal.
- Beijing-based C4games develops and operates various mobile titles including Red Alert Online, a China-only mobile spinoff of the Command & Conquer strategy title.
Context:
- In March, ByteDance’s Nuverse also snapped up Shanghai-based gaming studio Moonton Technology. With its latest acquisition, TikTok’s parent company seems to be looking to take on Chinese gaming giant Tencent.
- Earlier today, ByteDance submitted a letter to the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, indicating that the company is seeking underwriters for a listing.
