Earlier today we told you about Huawei’s upcoming ‘Honor’ smartphone, which bears a striking resemblance to both Apple’s iPhone and Samsung’s Galaxy S handset. As you no doubt have heard by now, those two companies are still embroiled in a legal battle, each alleging that the other infringed on its designs. But that didn’t stop Samsung from holding a launch event today to announce its new Galaxy S II LTE and Galaxy S II HD LTE handsets.

Aside from a slight variance of dimensions the phones are essentially the same, except for the latter HD version featuring a Super AMOLED display with 316 pixels per inch. Samsung describes it as a ‘HD theater in hand,’ ideal for watching movies. A 180-degree viewing angle ensures that the whole family can gather around your smartphone with a bucket of popcorn if so inclined.
Samsung boasts that the LTE Galaxys will enjoy transmission ‘five times faster than 3G,’ and they both include fancy NFC functionality as well.
According to Engadget the Galaxy S II LTE will be exclusive to SK Telecom, the Korean carrier which recently dropped $924 million on a key chunk of 4G spectrum. The HD version will be available on SK Telecom, LG U+, and KT.
