Coinbase hires ex-Snap SEA boss to head emerging markets

Cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase has appointed Durgesh Kaushik, former head of Snap India and Southeast Asia, to spearhead the company’s operations in emerging markets, The Economic Times reported.

Kaushik, who will begin work at Coinbase on May 9, will help scale the crypto firm’s operations in India. He will also oversee the company’s entry into other regions such as Asia Pacific, Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and the Americas.

He previously worked as the head of growth at India-based hyperlocal delivery platform Dunzo. Kaushik also led Facebook’s initiatives for helping grow small and medium-sized businesses.

The latest managerial appointment comes amid Coinbase’s plans to enter Southeast Asia – mirroring peer Crypto.com – by forming local teams in Indonesia. Both companies are searching for country leads to start their expansions into Southeast Asia’s largest market.
