Our popular maps of Southeast Asia’s complicated tech landscape
Dear readers,
One of the most fun – and stressful – parts of my job is having to constantly come up with new content that resonates with you.
It’s often hit or miss: Articles that we think would work sometimes flop, but on the flipside, we’re often surprised by how well certain formats do.
Last week, our top story was this piece on the key ecommerce logistics players and enablers in Southeast Asia.

It’s part of our landscape maps series, which is designed to help you make sense of the complexities in a particular space.
We’re always experimenting. Last week, we published a piece that tracks Asia’s upcoming tech IPOs and SPACs – or initial public offerings and special purpose acquisition companies, to spell them out.
We do intend to update this regularly, as long as we get enough interest from you. (Subscribing to Tech in Asia through an article is the best way to cast a vote on our editorial decisions.)
Of course, even as we publish our recurring content formats, we’re still spotlighting interesting trends and companies.
We recently discussed how mobile money could give Vietnam’s telcos an edge in the payment war, and compared this strategy to what other telecommunication firms in the region are doing.
We also looked at how an Indian edtech startup hopes to shake up lifelong learning in Southeast Asia. The lack of talent is a persistent problem among tech companies, so upGrad’s approach to education is welcome.
That’s it from us this week. Do stick around – we have many ideas brewing in our lab, and I can’t wait to show them to you.
Subscribe to Tech in Asia to support our efforts to serve you the best coverage on the region’s tech industry.
