This is the company’s most recent high-level hire after appointing Jim Boland, former chief financial officer at RedMart; Cathriona Nolan, ex-assistant vice president of brand marketing for Burberry; and Vorada Hiransomboon, former head of buying at Inditex.
Prior to his appointment, Thomas was CMO at Lazada Singapore. He was promoted to the role after the ecommerce giant integrated RedMart products into its platform.
At RedMart, Thomas served as director of brand and acquisition marketing. He also held senior management roles at advertising agency Ogilvy & Mather, travel firm Wego, and marketing agency Beyond Media Group.
Pomelo recently opened its flagship store in Singapore, and is now present in five markets after expanding to Malaysia, Hong Kong, and Macau since last year. The company now ships to over 50 countries worldwide, according to a statement.
In November 2017, the startup raised US$19 million in a series B round led by JD.com and Indonesian investment firm Provident Capital Partners. Prior to that, Pomelo raised US$1.6 million in pre-series A funding in 2014.
