Play-Asia sponsors Apex Smash Bros tournament, reskins fight stick just for it
Play-Asia recently announced its sponsorship of the Apex series tournament for 2014, which will see select competitors and attendees of Apex 2014 receive games, accessories and discounts from Play-Asia.com.
But that’s not the only thing they’re doing for Apex 2014. Play-Asia has also come up with a special edition of the Qanba fight stick, specially skinned for the tournament. The special fight stick is significant of the event, which has nine out of its ten featured games hailing from the fighting game genre.
This is Play-Asia’s first tournament sponsorship, and it doesn’t come as a surprise. Online retailers have to constantly reinvent themselves to stay on top of the hordes, and what better way to get people to spend at your site than to offer them discounts?
Play-Asia is headquartered in Hong Kong though, and while the venerable five year old Apex tournament series is deserving of their respect, one does wonder if Play-Asia will start sponsoring tournaments in its own backyard as well.
