DealPOS Wants Retailers to Ditch Cash Registers and Pick Up iPads

For retailers, cash registers are an expensive, space-hogging, eye-gougingly ugly experience. Indonesian startup DealPOS instead wants to push point-of-sales systems onto the web – and the interface onto any tablet or iPad.
DealPOS’ Nelsen Lim, pitching to the judges right now at our Startup Arena event, reckons that his cloud-based system is much more scalable and affordable for small retailers – especially for stores with multiple locations whose inventory back-end can be unified in this service. He claims that only five out of 100 retailers in Jakarta are using any kind of software to manage their sales right now, and the time is right for that to change.
Before the pitching contest, Nelsen explained to me that DealPOS has 15 clients already using the service, powering the back-ends of 50 individual store locations. When it comes to customers using credit cards, the shopkeeper can manually enter the card on their tablet into the DealPOS system in order to process it, or use an add-on card reading device.
All DealPOS clients so far are in the Jakarta area, but Nelsen says that he’s ready with a Singapore server on Softlayer for overseas expansion. He’s also keen to work with resellers in numerous countries.
The judges are keen to know how unique this is in Singapore (Nelsen says it’s the only such POS online system in Indonesia). Nelsen also assures the judges that the service includes support and secure web backups for retailers.
This looks like a strong contender among our 20 Startup Arena challengers. Is this the winner? Check back between 6:30 and 7pm to see who wins.
