League of Legends is the most popular game in Korea. And like pretty much everywhere else, Korean gamers say some funny things, especially if they don’t know you can understand them. For my own amusement, I sometimes pretend that I can’t speak Korean, to see what Korean gamers think about “foreign” players on their server. The results can be quite funny.
Those who visit the r/leagueoflegends sub-reddit may know that I started posting “Sh*t Koreans say in LoL” posts there before I was hired by Games in Asia, so you can check out previous installments here: part 1, part 2, part 3, part 4.
In the conversations below, anything in brackets was typed in Korean, and anything in italics is my own notation.
Game 1
I’m playing with a few friends; Mare is one of them.
Me (Vayne): MARE! STOP PLAYING OLAF. HE’S NOT A VIABLE MID.
Olaf: BROOOHOHOHOOOO
He has taken a liking to voice acting brolaf.
Trundle: [Mare-hyungnim! Please stop voice acting Olaf! It makes me cringe…]
Olaf: Broohohou…. brooooo……
Me: My god, he’s sad now. It’s sadlaf. WHAT DID YOU SAY TO HIM?
Trundle: I tell him to stop cause he’s no answer!
No answer refers to a korean slang: no-dap, meaning hopeless
Olaf: a true man never turn back!
Trundle: [Mare, are you really coming top? Go away!!!]
