Philippine tech-enabled laundromat seeks $2m funding

Philippines-based WeClean, a tech-enabled laundromat franchise, is looking to raise US$2 million in funding for its pre-series A round.

Founded in 2017 by Alfonso Bigeriego Patiño, the startup acquires profitable laundromats across Metro Manila. The firm said it has 20,000 recurring customers a month at 64 branches in the Philippines and plans to expand to 500 locations by 2025.

Lazada CEO Carlos Otermin and Edamama co-founder Nishant D’Souza are also on WeClean’s board. The firm last raised US$900,000 from Day One Capital Ventures in its seed round.

The laundromat operator operates two types of laundromat businesses: WeClean and Metropole. The former is aimed at working- and middle-class households in underprivileged areas. Meanwhile, Metropole offers a full suite of services such as dry cleaning and alterations that target upper- and upper-middle-class customers.

WeClean has recently adopted tech-enabled washing and drying machines, which collect and display pertinent data such as the vacancy of machines, the weight of clothing being washed, and how long the washing process takes, among others.

Partnering with firms such as Grab and Lazada, WeClean also offers laundry pick-up and dry cleaning. It is currently working on the launch of a dedicated app.
