Renowned AI scientist Kai-Fu Lee has resigned from Vizzio Technologies’ board of directors, according to data from the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority (ACRA).
Lee is the chairman and CEO of Sinovation Ventures, a China-based VC firm that invested in Vizzio last year.
This development comes after Tech in Asia reported on how Jon Lee, founder and CEO of Vizzio, falsely claimed to have earned a doctor’s degree in computer science from the University of Cambridge.
ACRA data indicates that Kai-Fu Lee, who joined Vizzio’s board in October 2023, resigned on January 12. Three days earlier on January 9, Tech in Asia contacted Sinovation to ask questions about claims made by Vizzio’s Jon Lee.
A few months ago, Kai-Fu Lee openly backed Vizzio and its founder on LinkedIn, but that post has been deleted. Tech in Asia has reached out to Sinovation for additional comments.
On January 17, Vizzio’s board released a statement signed by its chairman, Abu Bakar Mohd Nor, that stressed its unwavering support for its founder and CEO. The statement also confirmed that Jon Lee had informed the board about his lack of a doctorate.
“We are resolved to support Jon and to continue Vizzio’s mission and the future of our business earmarked by the many successful and proven projects since its inception,” the statement read.
