Hello reader,

Learning from your mistakes might sound easy, but I think many people – including myself – struggle with it.

It can be especially tricky in a team setting because you can shift the blame to others instead of looking at yourself. As someone who plays video games often, I’m not surprised at this: “My team sucks, not me!” is an all too common refrain among gamers.

But when something goes wrong, the path to true improvement doesn’t lie in lashing out at others or hoping that you get a better team for your next endeavor. Ultimately, the only variable you can control is you, isn’t it?

When I get hit by failure these days, I try my best to remain objective and examine what I did wrong – not just in gaming, but for most things in life. This is something that Corey Wilton, co-founder of Web3 game Pegaxy, had to contend with after everything went awry in 2021.

Today’s story features a chat that my colleague Scott had with Wilton about his second attempt at a play-to-earn game, aptly dubbed Pegaxy 2.0.

Today we look at:

  • Pegaxy’s second wind
  • The recent fundraise of a startup focused on menstrual care
  • Other newsy highlights such as Hyphen Group’s rebranding to MoneyHero Group and Startup Studio Indonesia opening applications for its seventh accelerator cohort.

I haven’t actually played any Web3 games, but the idea sounds really foreign to me. I think it boils down my impression that many Web3 games are designed to prioritize the play-to-earn aspect instead of the actual gameplay itself. Will Pegaxy 2.0 will be one of them? Let’s find out.

  • Iteration one: Within weeks of the first Pegaxy’s launch, there was an unexpected surge of players that caused technical difficulties. While this was great for in-game prices, Wilton had to tell players to have some perspective and patience. However, many took this the wrong way and stopped playing.
  • Round two: Nevertheless, the Pegaxy co-founder still believes in Web3 gaming and has been hiring staff with experience in Web2 gaming to improve monetization. Pegaxy 2.0 is set to be a free-to-play sequel that uses mobile game elements and NFTs.
  • New three: Wilton’s got two other titles in development: a “roguelike” game called Petopia where pets go through a dungeon and kill fruit monsters and an unnamed game that involves digital pets, similar to Tamagotchi in the 1990s.
