Norman Kamaru, the bollywood dancing cop has become a YouTube sensation in Indonesia. He appeared on several national TV networks including talk shows, music and comedy programs.
His video on YouTube has so far attracted more than 1 million views. More videos on his performances mushroomed on YouTube.

When he was subjected to punishments over his violation during work, a fan set up a Facebook page which currently has about 200,000 people supporting him. Norman’s live show in Bali with Opera Van Java received a very warm welcome from the Balinese people.
This is not the first time in Indonesia where ordinary people have sprung into fame because of YouTube. Previously, Indonesia had Sinta and Jojo who became really famous because of their lip sync video on YouTube which has gotten more than 6 million views. Thanks to the video, Sinta and Jojo now often appear on TV commercials and music programs.
As buzz gets louder, people start analyzing how Norman Kamaru’s Bollywood dance has gotten that famous. One of the reasons was due to timing. Recently, people are bored with negative news about Indonesian policemen and Norman’s video successfully showed the fun side of the police and entertained people at the same time. Funco Tanipu, a sociologist, said on Detik that if Norman did not wear the police uniform, he might not be that popular.
The second reason is because the video is indeed really funny. People smile when they watch the video and get surprised by Norman’s ability to perform the Bollywood dance. Right after watching the video, they will usually share with their friends via Twitter, Facebook, e-mails or Blackberry messages. Just for you information, Norman Kamaru will also be getting a scholarship to study law in a private university in Jakarta. The same thing also happened to Sinta and Jojo who got tuition waiver for their undergraduate study.
