Patrick Turner, affiliate professor of Entrepreneurship and Family Enterprise at INSEAD’s Singapore campus, passed away yesterday. He was 66 years old.
Turner, an INSEAD MBA graduate himself from 1978, started teaching MBA courses on entrepreneurship in 1999. One of his most popular courses was “Your First One Hundred Days”, a hands-on experience that recreated the highs and lows of leading a company through its first hundred days.
His hands-on approach in the classroom reflected his life outside of academia. He was very involved in Singapore’s startup community, as a member of the Action Community for Entrepreneurship, a government initiative from 2003, and as an advisor for local venture capital firm Upstream Ventures.
INSEAD released a statement earlier today, remembering Turner. “Through years of teaching [entrepreneur] classes with unparalleled success, he has given knowledge, skills, and inspiration to thousands of INSEAD MBAs. His interest and engagement went well beyond the classroom […] Patrick was a big man both in heart and in stature. He had a larger than life personality with a sense of humour to match. People always knew that he meant well in everything he said,” it noted.
Turner’s students took to Twitter to remember their mentor:
