Ecommerce titan Amazon announced that it has partnered with Sunseap Group, a solar energy provider based in Singapore, to export 62 megawatts of clean energy to the country’s electricity grids.

The project – Amazon’s first renewable energy project in Singapore – is expected to generate 80,000 megawatt hours of clean energy annually, which is enough to power over 10,000 homes in the city-state.

According to the statement, the project is set to be completed in 2022 and will supply renewable energy for the US giant’s offices, fulfillment centers, and Amazon Web Services data centers. It will help the company advance its goal under The Climate Pledge to reach net-zero carbon emissions across its business by 2040.

To hit its sustainability targets, Amazon will focus on increasing energy efficiency in its facilities and equipment as well as work with various power providers to increase the availability of renewable energy.

Sunseap Group currently has a portfolio of solar projects close to 2 gigawatt-peak in Singapore and around Southeast Asia. It offers solar photovoltaic installations, off-site clean energy supply, and energy efficiency solutions.

The development backs the Lion City’s vision to tackle climate change, as outlined in the Singapore Green Plan 2030, a 10-year program with a whole-of-nation sustainable development agenda.
