Singapore news media firm Eco-Business bags funding from Tembusu Partners

Singapore-based media and business intelligence firm Eco-Business said it has received an undisclosed amount of investment from private equity investment firm Tembusu Partners.

The two companies also announced a partnership to scale up Eco-Business’ environment, social, and governance (ESG) initiatives across Asia Pacific.

Established in 2009, Eco-Business publishes news on business and policy developments with a sustainability and ESG-focused lens. It also provides a platform for individuals and organizations to publish information on jobs, events, press releases, and research.

With the new partnership, Eco-Business founder and managing director Jessica Cheam and Beijing-based executive director Junice Yeo will join the Tembusu team as ESG advisors.

Separately, Daniel Lin, the co-founder and CEO of Singapore equity-based crowdfunding platform Funded Here, has joined the board of Eco-Business. He brings along his experience in financial services and will provide strategic guidance on bridging the worlds of finance and sustainability.

The news platform claims to have more than 3 million page views per year and 89,000 global subscribers to its weekly newsletter.

Eco-Business is poised to capitalize on the surge in ESG interest in Asia and globally, which is driven by rising concerns over climate change, resource scarcity, pollution, exploitation of labor, supply chain management, and rising inequality, said the firm.

Covid-19 has also pushed ESG issues into the mainstream as investors take up a more sustainable approach to investment.

According to a report, the ESG market was valued at US$38 trillion in assets under management in 2019.

“As countries around the region start recovering from the pandemic, Eco-Business will continue to play a key role in helping organizations navigate this new landscape and tie its recovery policies to positive sustainable development outcomes,” said Jessica Cheam, founder and managing director of Eco-Business.
