Microsoft’s VC arm leads $9m round in US, Malaysia-based motion graphics firm

Malaysia and US-based community motion graphics platform LottieFiles announced it has raised US$9 million in a series A funding round led by Microsoft’s venture fund M12.

Existing investor 500 Startups also participated in the funding round.

Founded in 2017, LottieFiles helps designers and developers create motion graphics using its own file format. Animations on the platform do not require motion graphics coding for different programs individually. The service comprises editing, workflow, and collaboration tools that integrate with design software such as Adobe After Effects, Figma, and VS Code, among others.

The new capital will be used to develop LottieFiles’ product roadmap, expand infrastructure, and increase its global user base.

“User of motion helps increase engagement by grabbing and holding user attention, which is now more important than ever with unprecedented demand for new engaging online experiences,” said the company’s co-founder and CEO, Kshitij Minglani.

Its assets range from simple animated icons, animated product onboarding and walkthroughs, system animations on smart watches, interactive infographics for online publications, to countless other use cases across devices.

The company, which also counts Adobe as its investor, claims to have recorded a 300% year-over-year growth, with over 1 million registered users from more than 65,000 companies globally, including Google, TikTok, Disney, Uber, Airbnb, and Netflix.
