Oracle to open cloud region in Singapore

US-based computer software firm Oracle is opening a cloud region – a physical place where public cloud resources are located – in Singapore. The Oracle Cloud Singapore Region aims to support the growing demand for enterprise cloud services in Southeast Asia.

The launch expands Oracle’s reach to 33 cloud regions globally, according to a statement. Additionally, the company said it’s offering 100 startups in the region about US$30,000 each in Oracle Cloud credits over the next two years.

The company is also looking to provide free Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) training and certifications until March 31, 2022 to help expand Singapore’s IT talent pool and make it easier for businesses to onboard or train skilled professionals.

OCI’s architecture provides a foundation for cloud services, while its physical and virtual network are designed for performance and security. The offering helps customers move their existing workloads and data platforms to the cloud and build new cloud-native applications as well, among others.

“We’ve witnessed triple-digit growth in the business last year and want to help customers innovate and modernize, while helping them address in-country data residency requirements,” said Garrett Ilg, president for Asia Pacific and Japan at Oracle.
