Shenzhen’s HAXLR8R boosts startup funding, gets a bigger office

haxlr8r

If you’re a hardware startup from anywhere in the world, Shenzhen’s HAXLR8R hardware accelerator is one of the best places you could hope to be. And the program got a little more appealing yesterday, as the company announced increased funding options for startups, a bigger Shenzhen office, bigger class sizes, and the appointment of former IDEO design lead Duncan Turner as HAXLR8R’s new director.

On the funding side, startups can now choose to accept funding of up to US$100,000 from the accelerator, although founders that want to give up a smaller share of equity can still opt for a smaller cash infusion if that’s what they prefer.

HAXLR8R will also be taking in more startups with each round, accommodating them in its new office space in Shenzhen. The massive space, encompassing 15,000 square feet, will include a workshop, event space, and showroom.

And of course, the accelerator is also getting a new program director in Duncan Turner. In the company’s blog announcment, Turner is quoted as saying:

I have always had a passion for startups and for the value that is being created in China for these hardware entrepreneurs. I believe the HAXLR8R model, which is a truly unique and exciting initiative, will be a catalyst for major changes in the world of hardware startups and manufacturing.

All in all, it sounds like a highly positive change for the accelerator. And given that the program already boasts some pretty impressive stats – a 97.5% survival rate and 100% crowdfunding success, among others – if you’re running a hardware startup, you’d be well-advised to give it a look.

Although based in China, HAXLR8R accepts startups from all over the globe.
