ON3 Finals winners: Six startups that could be the Philippine startup scene’s future

ON3, a first-of-its-kind nationwide startup pitching competition in the Philippines, recently concluded with the finals in Manila and the announcement of the six winners. Their prize: A three-month immersion and funding trip to Silicon Valley, sponsored by Plug and Play Tech Center.

The companies will be given five to six months of guidance and milestones to achieve in preparation for their trip to the Mecca of tech startups. While many of them are still in the early stages, you could very well be looking at the next wave of successful Philippine startups.

Here are the winners:

Miimove

An iOS app that lets athletes record and annotate videos of their sports moves and send it to remote coaches for instant critique. The app also enables users to compare videos of two people performing the same move to highlight areas for improvement. They have 500 downloads so far.

Payroll Hero

A web and mobile payroll management app that strives to get rid of ghost employees, time stealers, time wasters, and buddy punchers (see our product feature). Other features include the ability to discern an employee’s mood by taking and scanning pictures of them during clock-in, a display that shows the availability of employees, and payroll management tools. The startup, founded by Mike Stephenson and Steve Jagger, was a finalist at Echelon 2012. Their lineup of mentors includes Lean Startup author Eric Ries and Hootsuite founder Ryan Holmes.

Guestlist.ph

A website that aggregates information on clubs and nightspots in the Philippines and allows users to RSVP and invite their friends to parties. It even gives users free entry to clubs. “Work is hard, so partying should be easy,” says founder and CEO Ron Baetiong, who started the company in 2009.

Groupjump

A contact management and instant messaging app for the iPhone. It is developed by NextIX, an enterprise app development company with offices in Manila, Cebu, and Singapore.

X2wave

The company, founded in 2010 by Adrian Flores, is a spin-off of US-based High Technology Company. Its product is a suite of enterprise solutions that makes healthcare, logistics, and supply chain management easier. It is based on patented technology.
