Indian ecommerce firm CityMall sheds 191 jobs

CityMall, a social commerce platform based in India, is laying off 191 employees – about 15% of its workforce – as part of “structural changes across functions” in the company.

“After exploring multiple options, we’ve realized that there’re certain roles within the company which had to be dissolved to align to our evolving business model and the current business environment,” said the company in a LinkedIn post.

The announcement comes a year after CityMall raised US$22.5 million in series B funding meant for headcount expansion, technology investments, and logistics network development.

CityMall said it will provide outplacement assistance to laid-off employees. It has already invited interested parties to send in database requests.

“We have built a highly capable team at CityMall, and we’d be happy to share details of affected employees with companies that are hiring,” the company wrote.
