HashKey Group has named Livio Weng, Huobi Global’s former CEO, to serve as the Hong Kong-based crypto firm’s COO.

In his new role, Weng said he will lead the company’s efforts to “become a reputable and fully compliant” global Web3 network.

“We are at the tipping point of the virtual asset market where licensed and regulated exchanges will become an industry mainstream,” he added.

Tech in Asia has reached out to HashKey Group to learn more.

The appointment follows the firm’s recent run of securing licenses in Singapore and Hong Kong.

Late last year, HashKey Group secured a virtual asset trading license in its home country. It also won fund management service approval from the Monetary Authority of Singapore through HashKey Capital Singapore.

The group’s latest regulatory achievement came in February this year after getting the green light from the Securities and Futures Commission of Hong Kong for conducting cryptocurrency over-the-counter trading services.

Founded in 2018, HashKey said it aims to be a leader in digital asset management and blockchain solutions. Its offerings include a crypto exchange, a digital asset brokerage, and Web3 infrastructure services. It also operates a VC arm, HashKey Capital, which recently closed its third fund at US$500 million.
