Taiwan’s ASE launches $300m chip plant in Malaysia

ASE Technology Holding has opened a US$300 million semiconductor plant in Penang, Malaysia, to meet growing demand for advanced technologies, including generative AI.

This is ASE’s fifth facility in Malaysia and part of its strategy to diversify supply chains beyond Taiwan.

The expansion increases its total floor space in Malaysia to 315,870 square meters from 92,903 square meters.

The new plant will primarily produce image sensors for industrial applications, including humanoid robots.

ASE’s existing Malaysian plants focus on image sensors and power management chips for vehicles and industrial devices.
