Women now make up nearly 25% of India’s semiconductor workforce, up from 20% in 2020, with projections suggesting they will represent over 30% by 2027, according to staffing firm Teamlease Digital.

Companies like Micron and NXP are taking steps to support women.

Micron reports that 28% of its workforce in India is female, with 30% representation in the IT department. NXP’s Women in Tech program has trained over 100 female engineering students in VLSI design concepts.

Despite progress, women hold only 5-7% of leadership roles, and challenges like pay disparities and family commitments persist.

India’s goal to become a global electronics hub includes initiatives for female employees. One example is Tamil Nadu’s Sriperumbudur industrial housing project for female Foxconn workers, which accommodate up to 18,720 and aims to create a safer environment.
