SoftBank eyes $16.5b loan for US AI projects
SoftBank Group Corp. is in talks to secure a US$16.5 billion loan for its AI projects in the United States, which would be its largest loan issued in US dollars.
The proposed 12-month bridge loan is still in early discussions with banks, and the details may change.
SoftBank has not yet commented on the matter.
This financing aligns with SoftBank’s US$500 billion AI infrastructure project in the US. The company has partnered with OpenAI, Oracle, and Abu Dhabi’s MGX on the Stargate AI initiative, and remains the main investor in the project’s data center developments.
The loan may also allow SoftBank to join a US$40 billion funding round for OpenAI, potentially valuing the company at US$300 billion.
