SoftBank scores big as Google buys Wiz for $32b
SoftBank has made a significant return on its investment in Israeli cybersecurity firm Wiz after Google acquired the company for US$32 billion.
The Japanese investment firm, which invested in Wiz in August 2024, has more than tripled its initial investment within just eight months.
Wiz, founded in 2020 by Assaf Rappaport, has become a key player in cloud security, serving nearly 45% of Fortune 100 companies. In May 2024, the company raised US$1 billion at a valuation exceeding US$12 billion.
By July, it projected an annual revenue rate of US$500 million, with expectations to reach US$1 billion by 2025.
SoftBank’s investment coincided with Wiz’s rapid growth and the rising demand for cloud security, especially in Asia.
Google’s acquisition, the largest tech deal in Israel’s history, provided a quicker-than-expected exit for SoftBank, underscoring the booming interest in cybersecurity amid growing digital threats.
