SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won called for AI and energy collaboration between South Korea, the US, and Japan during the Trans-Pacific Dialogue (TPD) 2025.

The forum was hosted by the Chey Institute for Advanced Studies and took place from Feb. 21 to 22 in Washington D.C.

Chey proposed forming a trilateral industrial coalition that would use South Korea’s manufacturing, US software capabilities, and Japan’s expertise in materials and equipment.

He said that collaboration in AI and energy is crucial for addressing global challenges and maintaining competitiveness in these sectors.

They also considered collaborating on securing stable energy resources and combining US technology in nuclear and small modular reactors with the engineering expertise of Korea and Japan.
