Japanese investment firm Metaplanet announced the purchase of 160 bitcoin (BTC) for around US$13.3 million, following a previous purchase of 696 BTC.

The latest acquisition was made at an average price of US$83,264 per BTC, bringing Metaplanet’s total holdings to 4,206 BTC, valued at about US$356.2 million.

The firm has invested approximately US$359.8 million in its bitcoin portfolio.

Metaplanet began its bitcoin accumulation strategy in April 2024 and is now the ninth-largest publicly traded corporate holder of bitcoin globally and the largest in Asia.

The company aims to hold 10,000 BTC by the end of 2025 and 21,000 BTC by the end of 2026.

Despite the announcement, Metaplanet’s stock fell by 0.98%, while bitcoin’s price rose by 1.6% to US$84,526.
