Japanese investment firm Metaplanet acquired an additional 696 bitcoin for 10.15 billion yen (US$67.9 million) at an average price of 14.59 million yen (US$97,512) per bitcoin.

The purchase was made through cash-secured put options, with 645.74 BTC obtained via options exercises and 50.26 BTC from premiums. This brought the net cost to 13.48 million yen (US$90,073) per bitcoin.

Metaplanet’s bitcoin income generation business earned 770.35 million yen (US$5.2 million) in operating revenue for Q1 2025, marking an 11.4% increase from the previous quarter.

The company now holds 4,046 BTC, valued at about US$340 million, placing it among the top corporate bitcoin holders globally. It plans to acquire 10,000 BTC by the end of 2025 and 21,000 BTC by 2026.

The stock closed up 2% at 409 yen (US$2.73), reflecting a 1,950% increase over the past year.
