Intel delays $28b Ohio chip project to 2030 after cost cuts

Intel’s US$28 billion chip manufacturing project in Ohio is now delayed to 2030.

The first factory is expected to start operations between 2030 and 2031, while the second one will be completed in 2031 and begin operations in 2032.

The delay follows Intel’s adjustments to capital expenditures after costly efforts to enter the contract chip manufacturing market.

In 2024, Intel implemented major cost-saving measures, including laying off 15% of its workforce, suspending dividends, and planning capital expenditure cuts.

The company targets operating expenses of approximately US$17.5 billion in 2025.
