India’s smartwatch shipments drop 30% as Apple jumps 141%
Smartwatch shipments in India dropped by 30% in 2024, marking the first annual decline, according to Counterpoint Research
The decline was driven by a shift away from unbranded, low-cost devices, impacting domestic manufacturers and innovation.
Meanwhile, Apple saw a 141% year-on-year increase in Apple Watch shipments, fueled by rising demand for advanced health features and smartphone integration.
Despite Apple’s growth, its market share remained small, accounting for around 2% of the 35 million smartwatches shipped in India.
However, premium smartwatch sales (priced above US$230) surged by 147%, with Apple capturing 50% of that segment. The Series 10 and Series 9 were the most popular models.
In the premium smartwatch segment, Samsung and OnePlus held just 4% and 1%, respectively.
