EU watchdog eyes more action against DeepSeek
Europe’s privacy watchdog may take further regulatory action against Chinese AI startup DeepSeek due to concerns over its data practices.
This follows Italy’s decision to block the company’s chatbot, citing a lack of transparency in handling personal data.
Several national regulators, including those from France, the Netherlands, and Belgium, have already initiated actions against DeepSeek.
The European Data Protection Board (EDPB) is expanding its AI enforcement taskforce, initially focused on OpenAI’s ChatGPT, to include DeepSeek.
It also plans to establish a quick response team for urgent data protection issues.
Since the introduction of General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in 2018, the EU has remained a global leader in enforcing strict privacy rules.
