DeepSeek boosts China’s smart glasses innovation
DeepSeek’s open-source AI models are advancing China’s smart glasses sector by lowering costs and improving product capabilities.
These developments come amid efforts to integrate AI into augmented reality (AR) eyewear.
Rokid, known for its AI-enabled AR glasses, highlighted that DeepSeek-R1 is more affordable than competitors like OpenAI’s GPT-4.
Rokid’s CEO, Misa Zhu Mingming, noted that these models help cut research, development, and operational expenses within the industry.
In November 2024, Rokid launched its first AR glasses featuring large language models (LLMs).
These glasses resemble traditional eyewear but include advanced features like real-time translation, navigation, messaging, and photo capture.
