Douyin removes fake foreign accounts amid potential TikTok ban
Douyin, the app owned by ByteDance and exclusive to mainland China, has launched a crackdown on fake accounts impersonating foreign users.
This initiative is in response to growing interest following the potential TikTok ban in the US.
Li Liang, vice president of Douyin Group, revealed that over 10,000 fake accounts have been removed. He clarified that an overseas IP address alone does not verify foreign registration.
The crackdown coincides with rumors that Douyin might permit international registrations.
