Capital A to sell BigPay’s majority stake

Capital A, the parent company of AirAsia, plans to sell a majority stake in its financial technology arm, BigPay, to an undisclosed large regional bank.

The announcement was made by CEO Tony Fernandes during a webinar on Mar. 12, 2025.

Fernandes stated that the sale decision arises from capital requirements. BigPay is currently the only loss-making entity among Capital A’s non-aviation businesses.

Negotiations are in progress with the regional bank, along with other fintech and global players. After the sale, Capital A intends to retain a 30% stake in BigPay.
