Sea Group’s Garena leads $3.5m round of Spanish mobile game studio

Spain-based mobile game studio UnusuAll announced that it has raised 3 million euros (around US$3.5 million) seed funding led by Garena, GamesIndustry reported.

Details:

  • The startup was founded in 2020 by David Picon and Fatima Monllor, the ex-head of studio and former principal games designer, respectively, at Candy Crush creator King, and creative director Olga del Pozo.
  • UnusuAll, which focuses on casual free-to-play games, will use the fresh funds to add around 20 team members in the next 12 months.

Dive deeper:

  • Sea Group’s Garena has invested in several mobile game studios this year so far, such as US-based Double Loop Games and French startup PopScreen Games.
  • Garena’s mobile shooting game Free Fire unseated Tencent’s PUBG Mobile as the top battle royale game by player spending in the first quarter of 2021 in the US, generating about US$100 million in revenue compared to PUBG’s US$68 million.
