OMG vs EDG showdown: only one can participate in the Intel Extreme Masters Shenzhen
Season nine of the Intel Extreme Masters (IEM) starts next week and this year, the action begins in Shenzhen, China. Traditionally hosting events for both Starcraft II and League of Legends, the famous international tournament spans across the world. In previous years, stops were made in the US, Southeast Asia, Brazil, and finally back home to Europe for the IEM World Championship.

Full details have yet to be revealed, but IEM Shenzhen will be taking place from July 16th to July 20th and the League of Legends tournament will only include two Chinese teams. That means this week, OMG, Edward Gaming, World Elite, and Invictus Gaming will face off in a best-of-3 online tournament this week for participation rights:
IEM Shenzhen China Qualifiers – League of Legends
July 10th, 7 P.M. China time: WE vs. IG
July 11th, 9 P.M. China time: OMG vs. EDG
Live Chinese broadcast: Tatazu
Live English broadcast: Not available
Unfortunately, matchups were decided by drawing lots and it seems the top two LPL teams (OMG and EDG) drew each other. The other team to qualify will either be World Elite or Invictus Gaming, both of whom participated on the world stage last year in IEM 8.
We’re excited to see how things will turn out, but a tad disappointed that Star Horn Royal Club and inSec won’t be making an appearance.
