Hello reader,
It’s hard to keep pace with the AI developments in Southeast Asia, even if the region isn’t exactly the first place that comes to mind when you think of the tech.
Still, Southeast Asia isn’t short on people doing important work in AI – from founders building novel applications, labs conducting cutting-edge research, and corporations coming together to build region- and country-centric large language models that others can build upon.
In today’s featured story, my colleague Duc Tran and I came up with a list of noteworthy individuals in Southeast Asia’s generative AI space, covering both private and public sectors.
There’s much enthusiasm among founders to network with like-minded folks and to be part of a larger national conversation around AI.
We hope our list – a preliminary one we expect to expand – can serve as a starting point to facilitate such connections.
With all the noise that’s out there, we acknowledge that plenty of people – and startups – fall under the radar. Think there’s one we should be featuring or adding to the list? Drop us a note.

Who are the people shaping and steering the future of AI in Southeast Asia? It’s hard to have them all at your fingertips – so we’ve taken the liberty to come up with a list.
Our non-exhaustive list spans researchers from AI research labs, those leading AI efforts in large corporations, figures shaping policies, to startup founders. We have also included some of the most active investors in the space.
