Once again, this week, entrepreneurs and venture capitalists are flooding the topics of entrepreneurship in the form of lies and myths. If you have read Guy’s “The Art of the Start”, you would hear about the famous ten lies he spoke about from entrepreneurs.
- “The top 12 sins of Marketing Gurus (and their books)” by Uri Baruchin is an interesting read that spring out of Guy Kawasaki’s “top 10 lies” series. The twelve lies mentioned by Uri Baruchin are: anecdotal evidence, best practices, sweeping generalizations, sweeping negatives, 100% evangelism, more bulk for your buck, new marketing is old marketing and vice versa, rebranding of jargon, fundamentalism, evoking the geeks, cliches and round numbers. I thought I have at least flaunted six of tweleve rules but then again, marketing is about passing the message. As someone from the press told me,“Bad publicity is better than no publicity.”
- Guy Kawasaki has a whole series on “Top Ten Lies” on this and I thought that it might be easy to consolidate all here for our readers: entrepreneurs, engineers, marketers and venture capitalists. You might want to take a look and see how many of them you usually encountered. After sitting in both the positions of an investor and entrepreneur, I have practically seen every case of such situations.
- John Nesheim, the author of “High Tech Start Up”, has also compiled words of warning to various strategies or issues faced by entrepreneurs particularly on bootstrapping, founders and cash promises.
We will look forward to another week to bring you new thoughts and views from entrepreneurs and investors around the world.
