Monster Monpiece's global release will be censored because it's too sexy

Japanese developer Compile Heart’s PS Vita game Monster Monpiece (限界凸騎 モンスターモンピース) is, well, an interesting specimen. It’s a card battle game with a unique twist: to summon cards (which mostly take the form of anime girls) and add power to them, players must vigorously rub the screen of their PS Vita. This process also removes some of the character’s clothes. So…yeah. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the game’s global publisher, Idea Factory, said today that it will cut down on some of the game’s strong sexual overtones (or perhaps overtones) for the global release that’s coming sometime later this year. Specifically, the following cards have been limited, according to the company: Vampire, Kraken, Goblin, Cockatrice, Kobold, Skeleton, Titania, Bahamut, Fia, Brownie, Pegasus, Mandragora, Mau Sibau, Rafflesia, Death Scorpion, Phantom, and Tengu.

It’s an interesting move on Idea Factory’s part, and I have to say I wonder to whom the censored game will appeal. European game rating agency PEGI has given the game a rating of 12+, so it’s obviously been toned down quite a bit, but even without the skimpy outfits, this doesn’t seem like the sort of game that you’re going to be playing in the living room in front of grandma, does it?
