Japanese Photographer’s iPhone Camera App is a Huge Hit Right After Launch

Recruit Media Lab, a research arm of Japan’s largest human resources and classified ad company, released an iPhone camera app with a variety of filter effects last week. It’s called Cameran, and it has, quite remarkably, recorded a half million downloads in just three days since its release. It now ranks atop the ‘free’ sections in app stores for Japan, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.

The camera app was developed under the supervision of Mika Ninagawa, a female photographer and film director who’s known for her works filled with red flowers, goldfish, and landscapes.  The app has 23 photo filters and allows you to add effects to your own pictures.

According to reactions in social media and the blogosphere, Cameran seems to be winning over women, particularly those in their 20s and 30s, as there looks to be a large base a people who love Miss Ninagawa’s aesthetic style.
