Through the service, users can buy digital outfits and accessories from luxury brands, football clubs, and popular Netflix shows then put it on their online avatar. At launch, Meta has partnered with prominent brands such as Prada, Madhappy, and Liverpool FC and shows such as Squid Game and Stranger Things.

The feature is currently available on Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and in Meta’s virtual reality offerings.

According to Damian Kim, Meta’s managing director in Singapore, representations in the metaverse should reflect diversity in the real world. Kim added that Meta wants to build “an inclusive and diverse metaverse where people can choose facial features, body type, and clothing style that represent themselves.”

Last month, Meta announced its decision to lay off more than 11,000 employees, or around 13% of its workforce. CEO Mark Zuckerberg has reaffirmed that “metaverse is not the majority of what we’re doing” despite growing concerns about the firm’s losses in its metaverse and VR businesses.
