Meituan launches assistant app for livestreamers

China’s Meituan has rolled out a tool for online merchants and internet influencers, according to a Pandaily report that cited local media.

Called Meituan Livestreaming Assistant, the free tool improves on the ecommerce giant’s livestreaming features with group purchases and orders as well as exchange vouchers and tickets. It also adds advanced broadcast notifications.

The platform earlier tried livestreams focused on cosmetics and tourism but got mixed results.

Recently, it was reported that Meituan plans to cut 20% of jobs in its grocery delivery and food distribution units. Workers under its main food delivery and hotel-booking  subsidiaries are likewise affected.
