A record number of new unicorns have been born this year, boosting the total number in Southeast Asia to 38 today.
- At least 50% of the unicorns earned their titles this year alone.
- The new Mothers are Thailand and Malaysia, which both gave birth to their first unicorns in 2021.
- Sequoia is the biggest backer, having invested in the most number of unicorns from Southeast Asia including J&T Express, One Championship, GoTo, Moglix, and Carousell. Meanwhile, 500 Startups, Accel, East Ventures, Vertex Ventures, and Heliconia follow closely behind.
