“Personal data of 106 million international travellers to Thailand was found to have been exposed online in August before it was quickly secured by Thai authorities,” the Bangkok Post reported citing findings from cybersecurity research firm Comparitech.
Details:
- The database, which included information such as full names, visa type, passport numbers, and arrival dates, was indexed by search engine Censys on August 20 this year.
- Amorn Chomchoey, acting secretary general of the National Cyber Security Agency of Thailand (NCSA), said the incident happened last month and the database has been secured August 23.

- The development comes as Thailand readies the Personal Data Protection Act, under which will be full enforced June 2022.
- Under the act, companies that fall victim to cybercrime attacks will have to provide proof of having sufficient data protection measures in place or face penalties.
