With the partnership, Universal Studios Japan will introduce Alipay+’s QR code cross-border digital payments solution to the theme park, allowing users from China, Singapore, South Korea, the Philippines, Malaysia, and Thailand to use their preferred e-wallets on park grounds.
“It will be easier for guests from Asian countries to pay with their familiar mobile payment methods through Alipay+, and it will lead to an improved shopping experience, which is part of the park’s offerings,” said Universal Studios Japan president and CEO J. L. Bonnier.
The amusement park will also use Alipay+’s marketing solutions to run campaigns targeting digital-savvy overseas visitors.

Currently, over a million offline merchants in Japan have integrated Alipay+’s cross-border payments solution. Alipay+ supports seven mobile payment platforms, namely Alipay from China, AlipayHK for Hong Kong, EZ-Link from Singapore, KakaoPay from South Korea, GCash from the Philippines, Touch ‘n Go eWallet from Malaysia, and TrueMoney from Thailand.
In June, Alipay+ tied up with fintech firm Unlimint for a multicurrency interface. The firm also partnered with Singapore taxi firm ComfortDelGro to allow foreign e-wallets to pay taxi fares in the city-state.
