The agreement will allow passengers of Comfort and CityCab taxis to pay for their fares using Malaysia’s Touch ‘n Go eWallet or South Korea’s Kakao Pay.
ComfortDelGro CEO Jackson Chia said that with Singapore reopening its borders to tourists, it was essential to enable payments using e-wallets familiar to tourists.
Meanwhile, Cherry Huang, Ant Group’s general manager for global merchant partnership in South and Southeast Asia, said that the firm aims to integrate more of AliPay+’s e-wallets as payment options for ComfortDelGro’s taxis. This includes GCash from the Philippines, TrueMoney from Thailand), and Alipay HK from Hong Kong.
ComfortDelGro is Singapore’s largest taxi operator with a combined fleet of about 9,000 cars under the Comfort and CityCab brands. The firm’s taxis currently support about 20 different cashless payment methods.
According to the Singapore Tourism Board, visitors in the first four months of 2022 exceeded the numbers for the whole of 2021. Malaysians ranked third among the most frequent tourists in the city-state for the period.
